Designing any commissioned piece is a collaborative process.  Whether you have a detailed vision, a flash of inspiration, or just a vague concept of what you are looking for, I will work with you to make sure the piece that is created is exactly what you are looking for.

The process begins with a discussion of the design intent, including any budget or schedule expectations or constraints.  I will then prepare a concept design proposal that includes 3D renderings and/or 2D line drawings showing the overall proportions and major design elements.  This proposal will also include an anticipated schedule and a price quote.   The concept proposal is offered free of charge and at no obligation, and you will have a chance to review it before deciding whether or not to proceed with the commission.

If you approve of the concept and decide to proceed, I will work with you to refine the design and will provide you with a set of construction drawings that call out all dimensions, details, and specifications for the piece.  Once the design is finalized and construction drawings are approved, construction of your one-of-a-kind custom piece will begin.

Schedules for custom commission are subject to the design scope and my current workload, but typically are in the range of 2-3 weeks to develop the design concept and proposal, 2-3 weeks to finalize the design and produce the construction drawings, and 6-10 weeks for construction and finishing.  If you have a specific target for the project schedule we can discuss it and I will do my best to accommodate your needs.

Semi-custom keepsake boxes will be shipped within three weeks of ordering.

Custom commissions are priced based on material and labor costs and vary widely depending on the design.  The initial concept design proposal is provided free of charge.  Thereafter payments are due in three installments:

• 10% due upon approval of concept design proposal (design deposit)
• 50% due upon approval of construction drawings (construction deposit)
• 40% due upon delivery of finished piece (final balance)

Due to the custom nature of the work, payments are non-refundable.  At this time only checks or cash can be accepted for payment.
