The design of this table was all about finding a balance.  It needed to be large enough to accommodate dining and use as a workspace, but small enough to fit within the modestly sized room; it needed to coordinate with an existing set of chairs and also with a proposed new set; the components needed to be thick enough to be structurally sound, but also thin and light enough to be in visual proportion with the room.  The trestle ends were assembled and joined to the stretcher with mortises and slip tenons.  There is a partially concealed bar at the top of each trestle end running between the “arms,” and clips connecting the table top to the bars allow for seasonal movement of the top.
